Preparation for Social Action
Vanuatu
Preparation for Social Action (PSA) is a training program by “Foundation for the Betterment of Society” (FBS) NGO for young people in remote regions of Vanuatu, a small island nation located in the South Pacific. Youth and participants are trained and accompanied in becoming promoters of the common good.
Fostering Education and Development in Vanuatu
The TwoWings Foundation is collaborating with Beyond Verein (a German non-profit organization) as a development partner to support this project to foster a more sustainable, tolerant, peaceful world by providing educational opportunities and enable people to become self-determined pioneers of development in their environment.
In remote regions of Vanuatu only a few numbers of young people attend secondary school. For education or to find work, many of them leave their families and migrate to the cities. Social structures are thus weakened, and the potential of young people does not benefit their villages and the prospects for development in rural areas are diminishing. The main objective of FBS is to enhance sustainable development and improve the quality of life of people living in Vanuatu. The NGO supports local initiatives that promote education and empower local communities.
Program's Impact on Youth Empowerment
To achieve this goal, TwoWings and Beyond Verein support FBS to implement the Preparation for Social Action (PSA) Program, which aims to train young people in remote regions and empower them to take an active role in developing their villages by learning basic skills. The program focuses on various areas, including upbringing and education of children, health care, agriculture, and environmental protection.
As part of this initiative, participants in the program receive training to become kindergarten educators. This training enables them to prepare young children for school and contribute to creating peaceful and productive environments in their village communities.
In this program, students learn to analyze their environment to determine what steps make sense to move forward with significant development in their village. In doing so, they apply the methods learned in the PSA program. These include consulting with villagers, collecting statistics, and developing appropriate actions. The focus is on social action in order to learn from it and adjust activities as necessary.
